Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians not to leave politics solely in the hands of politicians, advocating for a strong partnership between the government and business leaders to drive the country’s economic growth and prosperity.
Shettima made the call during the Heirs Holdings Group Directors’ Annual Summit Dinner held in Abuja on Friday.
Highlighting the importance of synergy between the political and economic spheres, Vice President Shettima emphasized that both sectors are complementary forces essential for national stability and progress.
“Politics is too important to be left to the politicians, and enterprises that define our economic destination are too important to be left to the businessmen alone to develop,” he stated.
Shettima stressed that open dialogue, shared insights, and collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors are critical to developing solutions tailored to Nigeria’s unique challenges.
He noted that such a partnership is crucial for addressing pressing issues such as unemployment, poverty reduction, and improvements in education and healthcare.
Aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s economic agenda, Shettima called on conglomerates to support the administration’s practical economic vision, moving away from superficial reforms of the past.
He emphasized that collaboration between the public and private sectors is a critical ingredient for a thriving economy.
“We must engage in open dialogue and share insights and work together to craft solutions that are peculiar to our realities.
“Whether it is tackling unemployment, reducing poverty, or enhancing education and healthcare, our partnership must aspire to drive sustainable development and create a safe future for all Nigerians,” he added.
Recall that Shettima had accused certain forces of undermining the efforts of the Bola Tinubu administration to stabilise the economy.
He attributed the current food crisis in the country to smugglers and politicians who failed to gain power through the ballot box.
Speaking at a Public Wealth Management Conference in Abuja, Shettima stated that some individuals were desperate to see the country fall apart.
