The Flying Eagles of Nigeria led by coach Aliyu Zubairu defeated Ghana’s Black Satellites 2-1 in a keenly contested final match to retain the 2024 WAFU B U-20 title.
In the final match played at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé, the capital of Togo, on Wednesday, 30 October 2024, Nigeria defeated Ghana 2-1 to claim the trophy.
Although the Flying Eagles controlled much of the match, it ended up being a game of two halves, with Ghana applying more pressure in the second half and Nigeria dominating the first.
The Flying Eagles led 2-0 at the interval thanks to a brace from Kparobo Arierhi in the first half. However, Jerry Afriyie gave the Black Satellites a goal in the 74th minute, but it was merely a consolation goal as the Nigerian team held on to win.
The WAFU B zone will be represented by Nigeria and Ghana at the forthcoming 2025 U-20 AFCON, which will take place in South Africa next year.
African qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile will also be held during the next U-20 AFCON, and the four semi-finalists will automatically advance.
