Bayern Munich FC head coach Vincent Kompany has said that Tuesday’s defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was predictable, given the quality of players their opponents possess. He added that his side will do everything possible to win the second leg at home next week, news.ng reports.

The Bundesliga champions last night suffered a 5–4 defeat to PSG, as stars from both clubs found the back of the net to set up another thrilling encounter next week.

Kompany, while assessing the game after the match, admitted he had a feeling about how it would end after conceding five goals, particularly against the defending champions.

He said, “When two teams go into a match like this with this idea, then that’s exactly what can happen. I already had a feeling that a match like that was possible. Obviously, when you concede five goals away from home, the semi-final is normally over. But we scored four and could’ve scored one, two, even three more.”

Recovering from the defeat and looking ahead to the return leg in Munich next week, Kompany emphasised that his side will do all they can to win and qualify for the final, banking on their home fans.

“We know now: the second leg is at home, and we have to win. We do that often there, and with the support of our fans, the belief is certainly there. Overall, we always had the feeling we could be dangerous,” he stated.

Having scored four goals away, the FC Bayern boss vowed that they would repeat the same scoring form witnessed last night, calling on their fans to be as relentless as they were during the tie against Real Madrid.

“Nevertheless, four goals in Paris show that we can score goals. And we’ll show that again at home. We have a week now to work on the things we need to improve. The belief is 100 per cent there, as is the feeling. We need our fans and their support with the same passion we had against Madrid,” he added.

Meanwhile, PSG coach Luis Enrique said it was a huge achievement to beat FC Bayern, who had lost only three games in all competitions this season.

Assessing the game, the coach admitted the match was difficult in the first few minutes, which caused his side to concede first, but they showed resilience, which produced a favourable outcome for them.

According to Enrique, “First of all, we are very happy to have beaten a team that has only lost 3 games all season. The start of the match was very difficult, because they started the first half better than us. We conceded the first goal, and it was hard to control the game, but the team began to show how it normally plays.”

Looking ahead to the return leg, the PSG boss predicted a similar outcome.

“It was incredible, and in the exciting moments, the atmosphere in this stadium is perfect. But you have to understand you’re playing one of the best teams in Europe, and that it was tough. We won, but we suffered the whole match, and it will be the same in the 2nd leg,” He added.
