An advocate of Yoruba self-preservation on Twitter, Aare Kurunmi Kakanfo, has chided some northern Muslims for castigating their southwest counterparts due to a trending video.
The video was posted by Nigerian music pop star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Davido signee Logos Olori released a song titled “Jaye Ola,” and the afro-beat star shared snippets of the music video on his Twitter page.
Many northern Muslims described the video as disrespectful to Islam because it was shot in a Mosque setting.
Some also went as far as scolding Yoruba Muslims, stating that they put culture before their religion.
The comments irked Kakanfo, who noted that the Southwest would never succumb to religion in exchange for their culture.
His words:
”Some fundamentalists want to gaslight Yoruba Muslims into radicalism.
”They are calling Yoruba Muslims bad Muslims because they are not on the street creating chaos and anarchy like they do in some places in Nigeria.
”What is even surprising is some people who were calling people like me bigots for speaking up against the desecration of Yoruba spirituality and identity a few days ago are currently calling for the head of Davido. What kind of hypocrisy is this?
”Yoruba Muslims are not bandits and terrorists. They are the definition of good Muslims in the world, and they will use legal and lawful means to address any form of injustice that they perceive. We won’t let you turn Yorubaland into Afghanistan.”
