Bashir Magashi, the Defense Minister, says security has been beefed up in Abuja, Nasarawa and Niger in view of the recent terror alert issued on FCT by the United States Government.
Assuring citizens of their safety, Magashi noted that security agencies are “on top of the situation”.
“We believe that there is no smoke without fire and in that regard, we were able to subject the details to our intelligence organizations and they have provided answers to those areas in which the government is in doubt,” he said.
“We realized that what we need is to be extra vigilant to prevent any activity of the bandits from where the threat is likely, and we will be able to provide enough forces that can neutralize those kinds of situations.
“We are of the opinion that the best way to go about it is to continue and where possible beef up security in Abuja and its contagious states, that is Nassarawa, Niger and the rest of them,” he added.
Magashi urged the United States to “pray for Nigeria” rather than release such sensitive information to the public without first speaking with the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
