With barely seven months left in office, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has appointed a total of 14,000 political advisers and 28,000 special assistants.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Kelvin Ebiri, the appointments take immediate effect.
“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers,” the statement read.
Governor Wike has also donated the sum of one billion naira to support victims of flooding in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egema/Ndoni local government areas of Rivers state.
“The gesture is to enable vulnerable families, particularly in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs, which are the most impacted areas in the state, to cope with the devastating flood water which has inundated homes, farmlands and forced residents of affected communities to relocate to safer places,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Governor Wike has rejected all peace talks with members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) until the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, resigns his position.
The governor and his allies have resigned their membership of the PDP presidential campaign council over the same matter.
But Atiku has said that he has no power to force Ayu out of office.
