The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has highlighted the crucial role of education in eradicating poverty and ensuring access to quality education for all Nigerians, regardless of age, gender, and geopolitical location. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He commended the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) for its efforts in implementing the educational roadmap in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s<\/a> commitment to education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Speaking at the Stakeholders Meeting on Achieving Youth and Adult Literacy in Abuja, Dr Sununu declared the event open, emphasizing the importance of this initiative, which forms a critical pillar of the Roadmap for the Nigeria Education Sector (2024-2027). <\/p>\n\n\n\n The meeting, organized by NMEC, aimed to gather key stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving literacy rates nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. Sununu stressed the need for a comprehensive approach to enhancing the quality of education provided to adults and non-formal learners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This includes integrating skills acquisition and conducting awareness campaigns to educate parents about the importance of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On his part, Prof. Simon Ibor Akpama, Executive Secretary of NMEC, welcomed stakeholders and underscored the essential role of literacy in building a sustainable future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He called for collective action to address youth and adult illiteracy, a significant challenge in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While speaking, Hon. Ibrahim Mustapha, Chairman of the House Committee on Alternative Education, praised the President’s commitment to transforming literacy in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
