Xabi Alonso, the coach of top German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, has delivered a positive update on the return date of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface.
Recall that Boniface who has been outstanding for Bayer Leverkusen since he joined from Belgium last summer, suffered an abductor injury days before the Nations Cup which effectively ruled him out of Jose Peseiro’s AFCON 2023 squad.
He has not been able to play since the beginning of the year due to the surgery he had to have after his injury. Ever since his surgery, Boniface has posted numerous photos of himself in physical treatment sessions.
His coach has now revealed a positive update about the recovery of the striker who has registered ten goals and seven assists in 16 appearances for his club side.
“His (Boniface) development is very good, the recovery is going in the right direction. That’s very positive,” Alonso said, per Bild.
“We expect Boniface soon, I don’t know, but it won’t be until May, maybe April, and that’s very good for us, having Boniface back.
“Boni works very well, with great professionalism, twice a day. We need players who have the desire to be back.” He added.
With ten points more than Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and a trip to Qarabag on Thursday night, Bayer Leverkusen—still undefeated under Xabi Alonso this season—is headed for a triple. They are also in the DFB Pokal semifinals.
