The inaugural champion of the Yukateco Boxing League (YBL) will receive N20m cash price, the organizers of the event announced on Wednesday.
News.ng learnt that the Chairman of Yukateco Boxing Promotions, Mr. Olamide Imadu, said that the winner of the YBL will get N20m while other boxers will also receive big prizes for participating in the event.
He added that each weight category winner will receive N300,000 while the second-place boxer will get N200,000, and the third-place boxer will receive N100,000.
He also said that all other boxers will receive consolation prizes based on their rankings at the conclusion of the league.
Mr. Imadu added that the aim of the YUKATECO boxing league is to establish boxing as a priority sport in Nigeria and indeed in Africa and that it is time to stop thinking of boxing as a primitive game.
“Boxing is an important sport that can help to change the perception of Nigeria abroad, and that is what we plan to do with the YBL,” said Imadu. “We will reward every participant in the league, and we look forward to making the league even bigger and better every season.”
The 20th edition of the Yukateco Boxing League seminar will be held on Tuesday, 30th October, 2023, at the Old Hall in brai ayonate boxing complex, national stadium in Lagos. The seminar will include formal media presentations of the clubs and the boxers, as well as live draws by the league.
The Yukateco Boxing League will officially kick off on the 6th of November, 2023, with 12 consecutive weeks of games and special events throughout the festive season.
