The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a statement to address recent claims concerning the treatment and conditions of detention of Binance Executive, Tigran Gambaryan in Nigeria.
In response to allegations suggesting unsavoury prison conditions and deteriorating health, the government categorically refuted these assertions, labelling them as false and urging the public to disregard them.
According to the statement released by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Gambaryan is being held in lawful detention under conditions that ensure access to quality medical care as needed.
The statement also confirmed that Gambaryan enjoys full access to consular services from his home government.
The government reiterated its commitment to upholding Gambaryan’s fundamental rights, including the right to a lawful trial and comprehensive care, including healthcare.
Emphasizing that his detention is court-ordered, the statement clarified that any alteration of terms or directives for release would be subject to the court’s authority.
Furthermore, the Federal Government emphasized its adherence to due process in the pursuit of justice involving Binance, asserting that it is a legitimate sovereign endeavour mirrored by actions taken in other jurisdictions globally.
The statement concluded by reiterating Nigeria’s dedication to legal and diplomatic standards, affirming the country’s commitment to justice and the integrity of its judicial processes.
It assured that Gambaryan is being treated fairly, with his legal and human rights safeguarded throughout the judicial proceedings.
”The executive is being treated with the utmost fairness, and his legal and human rights are being protected throughout the judicial proceedings,” the statement concluded.
Recall that Yuki Gambaryan, the wife of Tigran, had urged Nigerian authorities to comply with a court order to transfer her husband from Kuje prison to a hospital for medical care.
In a press statement, she expressed her devastation over the continued detention of her ailing husband despite the court’s directive.
Mrs Gambaryan called on President Bola Tinubu’s government to adhere to the court’s order and facilitate her husband’s transfer to a medical facility.
