In an exclusive interview with reporters in Abuja, Abdulsalam Ibrahim, the national coordinator of Nigeria Spelling Bee, unveiled Nigeria’s forthcoming role as the host of the 7th African Spelling Bee by December.
Ibrahim spotlighted Nigeria’s proud legacy of spelling excellence and its unwavering commitment to nurturing budding linguistic talents, stating the country’s dedication to fostering education and culture.
Highlighting the competition’s objective, Ibrahim articulated its mission to bolster literacy among students while providing an avenue for recognizing and rewarding academic achievements with prestigious prizes and coveted scholarship grants.
He revealed that the Federal Ministry of Education had entrusted them with the responsibility of showcasing Nigeria’s finest talents on the grand stage of the competition.
To prepare contestants, Ibrahim disclosed that the association had meticulously crafted a comprehensive study guide aimed at aiding students in mastering spelling rules, thereby enhancing their proficiency as spellers.
He stressed the profound impact of spelling mastery on students’ communication skills, public speaking prowess, and overall self-confidence.
Positioning the African Spelling Bee as a premier international event, Ibrahim highlighted its significance in uniting champions from various African nations.
Previous editions held in countries like South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi have showcased the continent’s linguistic prowess and cultural diversity.
Anticipation runs high as more than 23 African countries gear up to participate in the 7th edition slated to take place in Abuja.
