A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the Federal Government, acting through the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), to hold GITEX, the largest technology exhibition in the world, for the first time in 2025.
Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International, organisers of GITEX, confirmed the partnership in a statement
GITEX Global and GITEX Africa are organised by KAOUN International, who will lead the event in Nigeria.
Kashifu discussed the importance of signing the MOU stating that hosting GITEX in Nigeria will provide Nigerians with access to the greatest tech conference experience.
GITEX Africa, which opened on Wednesday and runs through Friday, brings together a wide range of ICT companies and startups, as well as over 350 well-known investors, 600 conference speakers, and 100 government agencies.
The NITDA DG While emphasising that hosting the event will also help the country in diversifying its economy, stated:
“President Bola Tinubu is big and loud on trade and economic diversification, and you cannot trade in isolation. The President has mandated us to facilitate parts of this diversification.”
He predicted that in only a few days, the event may bring in an incredible $25 million in income.
LohMirmand expressed excitement about the collaboration, pointing out that Nigerian teams have a history of success in the pitch contests, frequently taking home trophies.
She claims that Nigeria is the African nation where developers are expanding the fastest, which begs the issue of how many more winners there may be.
“By bringing GITEX to Nigeria, we aim to tap into the country’s vast potential and explore the myriad opportunities it offers in sectors like AI, digital health, and fintech,” Trixie said.
