Super Eagles and Fenerbahce FC defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has recounted his fight with irate Trabzonspor FC last weekend after a football game in Turkey.
In an exclusive interview with Bein Sports, Osayi-Samuel defended his actions at the end of the Turkish Super Lig cash between Trabzonspor and his club, Fenerbahce.
The action taken by the defender has generated mixed feelings, as he now risks a 10-match ban by the Turkish Football Federation following his involvement in the clash.
Osayi-Samuel, however, insisted that he did what he had to do in self-defence.
“Some people say what I did was not self-defence. If someone comes at you with a knife in his hand, how can this not be self-defence? They came to the field from the stands,” he was quoted by Bein Sports.
“I only had to defend my team and my friends there. Many of my teammates were coming into the locker room with cuts and bruises.
” I cannot understand how such events are possible on a football field.”
Recall how the opposition team’s home fans swarmed the field at the end of the game between the two teams, and the right-back was forced into a vicious battle with them.
The Nigerian international, who received appreciation from Fenerbahce supporters for his actions, is also wary of facing misconduct charges due to his involvement in the incident.
