The Governor of Bayelsa state Mr Douye Diri, has expressed his gratitude to the INEC for following the Court’s decision to disqualify the All Progressive Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate, Mr Timipre Sylva.
Speaking on Wednesday during his campaign tour in the LGA of Sagbama, Mr Diri declared that if he and his deputy had not worked together, the projects he was inaugurating today would not have been possible.
He further stated that if re-elected on November 11, he would be willing to do more to ensure the success of the projects. The governor was addressing a large crowd of party supporters in the Tarakiri Clan of the LGA, where he inaugurated a road, a technical college, a motor park and a public building complex in Ofoni community.
”We are both here to inaugurate projects and dance. We are not here to campaign. We are here to thank all of you for voting for us and for having faith in our ability to deliver. Today, INEC has released the names of the candidates who can run in the forthcoming election.
”As you are aware, Sylva is not on the list, nor is his running mate MacIver. I want to thank INEC for upholding the rule of law. Former MP and Chief of Staff to the Government House, Peter Akpe said APC does not have any presence in the Tarakiri clan.
He added that the people in the area will vote for Diri.
“I have been travelling around and meeting with people, and the response I am getting is that they see the projects that the Diri government has started and completed all over Tarakiri Community,” he said.
”They promised to provide you with all their votes so that you can return and do more. They also told me not to worry, as they are prepared to give Tarakiri clan 100% to the PDP. The people know that the opposition candidate is not going anywhere in this election”, he said.
