In preparation for Ramadan, Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, appeals to traders nationwide to reduce food prices during the fasting period instead of raising them.
Speaking from his Wadata palace in Bida, Niger state, the Royal father, also Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, encourages prosperous individuals to support the less privileged not only during Ramadan but consistently.
The Etsu spoke of the importance of traders aligning their business practices with Islamic principles and assisting their neighbours.
He urges traders to empathize with ordinary people by lowering the costs of essential items during Ramadan, warning against the consequences for those contemplating price hikes.
Expressing concern about deliberate price increases during Ramadan, especially for goods like grains, fruits, beverages, and condiments, the Etsu Nupe calls on traders nationwide to embrace the sacred nature of the month and reduce prices to reap the full benefits of Ramadan.
Alhaji Abubakar stresses that wealthy individuals should utilize their resources to assist the less privileged, providing both food items and financial support to alleviate hardships, particularly for the poor and widows. This, he believes, will significantly contribute to easing their sufferings during the holy month and beyond.
