The World Health Organization [WHO] in Benue State has confirmed that 25 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 disease according to the WHO’s Surveillance Officer for the state.
Speaking to journalists at a CSOs and Media Engagement Meeting on the ramp-up of the virus in Makurdi, Ogechukwu Chigbo the surveillance officer said that the disease is still widespread and urged Nigerians to protect themselves from it by getting vaccinated.
She added that the country is currently at the peak of the virus’ activity, so it is important for Nigerians to make use of the available vaccines to contain the virus.
Chigbo said the vaccines were safe and would prevent Nigerians from contracting serious infections caused by the disease.
News.ng recalls that the virus was first reported in Nigeria on 27 February 2020 when an Italian citizen tested positive for it in Lagos.
On 9 March 2020, another case was reported in the state of Ogun, where a Nigerian contracted the virus after coming into contact with an infected Italian citizen.
