Super Eagles and Rangers FC of Scotland striker Cyriel Dessers has declared that it is a special feeling to score for the senior national team of Nigeria against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Dessers who made the remarks after the game between Nigeria and Ghana in Marrakech, Morocco on Friday said that it feels good to score for the Eagles against one of the main rivals.
He also revealed that he had to ask Kelechi Iheanacho if he could take the penalty before calmly slotting the ball home past Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi to give Nigeria the lead in the first half of the match.
The striker said, “I asked Kelechi if I could take the penalty, he said you can do,” Dessers told the Super Eagles media after the game.
“It is always special to take a penalty for the Super Eagles because it is for the whole country and in a special game against Ghana, you definitely want to score.”
Dessers also discussed how Nigeria performed in the match, which ultimately concluded with a 2-1 victory for the Super Eagles.
Jordan Ayew scored a goal deep into stoppage time to cut the deficit after Ademola Lookman scored with seven minutes remaining.
“In the first half, I think I played a really good game. The second half was a little bit more difficult but I think it was more difficult for the whole team,” added the former Feyenoord player.
“It is a good thing for me to come back to the team and to play a good game, to win an important game. Hopefully, this will be a step up for the future.” He noted.
