The outgoing coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, has declared that he is done with the Super Eagles, thus restating his decision to quit as the coach of the team.
The Portuguese coach was forced to make the comments, with reports making the rounds that he could make an instant return to his role as manager of the Nigerian national team.
Peseiro, who reinforced his decision in a recent interview, said it was gratifying to coach players for the Super Eagles, but the time has come for him to face another project.
“As I said, my work with the Super Eagles is over. It was gratifying to coach players of such quality; with my staff, we managed to do well in this sense, but the time has come to move on to another project,” Peseiro said in an interview with Sports Italia.
Peseiro’s contract expired on the last day of February, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently searching for a new manager to take over as Super Eagles coach. The parties were unable to agree about increased pay for the coach who guided Nigeria to the AFCON 2023 final.
The Nigerian football association reportedly made Peseiro’s agents an improved offer. But the former coach of the Super Eagles insisted on receiving $120,000 in compensation, claiming that the NFF’s $50,000 monthly salary was insufficient and that the $80,000 offer from earlier was more reasonable.
