The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and allied bodies have issued a collective plea for safety and responsible celebrations during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivities, urging residents to exercise caution to prevent disasters.
At the Christmas carol event themed ‘Immanuel,’ Permanent Secretary Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the importance of cautious celebration.
He stressed the need for residents to adhere to rules and regulations, advocating for a moderate and law-abiding approach to festivities to avoid mishaps.
Assuring the public of LASEMA’s readiness to respond promptly to emergencies, Osanyintolu urged individuals facing emergencies or casualties during the festive period to contact emergency lines 112 and 767 for immediate assistance.
In a joint effort, the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) have commenced a comprehensive advocacy campaign.
The Director General of LSC, Lanre Mojola, and LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable celebration.
The joint monitoring and enforcement operations, targeting social centres like bars, event venues, parks, and other high-traffic locations, aim to enforce safety and environmental regulations.
The campaign, labelled ‘Socialize Responsibly,’ seeks to raise awareness about safety measures, addressing issues like overcrowding, fire safety, and noise pollution during the festive season.
Encouraging public participation in upholding safety and environmental guidelines, the agencies provided contact numbers—07000SAFETY for the Safety Commission and 07046351295 for LASEPA—to report any observed safety or environmental infractions.
