The Chairman of the Somolu Local Government Area in Lagos State, Abdul-Hamed Salawu, has announced a partnership with Somolu Tech Innovation and Tech Shepherd, a start-up information technology company to train youth in tech skills.
The second edition of the free ICT training programme for young people in Somolu was confirmed in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, more than 130 young people signed up for the SKILLSHOP.
Only 64 people could, however, physically attend the training sessions hosted at Tech Shepherd’s Somolu location.
Salawu, who was represented by the Supervisor of Youth and Sports, Hector Ayo-Coker, claimed that the four-day intensive tech boot camp would boost ICT literacy in the local government.
“Over 130 youths registered for the FREE SKILLSHOP. However, only 64 were able to physically attend the training sessions held at the Tech Shepherd’s facility in Somolu.
“To ensure quality instruction, seven competent and certified facilitators and tech trainers were engaged to impart knowledge to the participants in their chosen skills.
“The boot camp is designed to train participants in front-end web development, and UI/UX design after which selected participants will be offered a six-week scholarship to improve on their chosen skills,” the statement read.
In the last edition, 65 youths were trained in coding, UI/UX design, and digital marketing.
