Microsoft has revealed that its newly established consumer AI branch will now have a new centre in London.
Jordan Hoffmann, who Mustafa Suleyman described as “an exceptional AI scientist and engineer” would be leading the unit in a statement on the company’s blog post on Monday.
Microsoft appointed Suleyman, a cofounder of DeepMind, to lead its internal AI branch last month. Suleyman took dozens of employees with him when he left his newly established business, Inflection AI, to join Microsoft.
The announcement was made approximately three weeks after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella launched a new consumer AI branch managed by the founders of Inflection AI, among them Suleyman.
At the time, Nadella claimed that “a number of Inflection team members” had also joined Microsoft’s recently formed AI division (Bloomberg revealed that the majority had in fact joined).
News.ng understands that one of those was Hoffmann, a former PhD candidate who worked as a research scientist at Deepmind in 2020 before leaving to create Inflection AI in 2022 after Suleyman founded the company in 2022 and his subsequent hiring of staff members from Meta and Deepmind.
At Microsoft’s Paddington office, Suleyman announced that they will be posting new job openings in the “coming weeks and months” to attract additional AI talent to work with Hoffmann on developing new language models and related infrastructure and tooling.
We earlier reported that Microsoft and First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) have teamed up to create an advanced set of AI-driven financial services.
Hana Al Rostamani, Group Chief Executive Officer at FAB disclosed the partnership in a statement seen by News.ng.
As per the release, the three main focuses of the new AI Innovation Hub will be customer experience, sustainability, and innovation.
