The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has apprehended a 23-year-old Nigerian national for assuming a false identity and engaging in document forgery.
According to officials, the suspect received approximately P220,000 in money remittances from abroad in February, using various fake identification cards and names at different remittance centres.
”These transactions raised suspicions among the establishment’s management,” the police statement said.
The police added: ”On March 3, the individual received P110,430 from the United States using a foreign passport with a fictitious name.
”Prompt action by authorities led to the retrieval of the money remittances, receipts, and one of the passports used by the suspect.”
QCPD director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan commended the swift response of PS 16 personnel, emphasizing the city’s commitment to combatting fraudulent activities.
He urged the public to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities.
He said the arrested suspect will face charges corresponding to identity theft and document forgery under Philippine law.
”Authorities will continue investigating the extent of the individual’s activities and possible accomplices,” he added.
