The Federal Government issued a stern warning yesterday, asserting that proven cases of sabotage against its ongoing reforms would not go unpunished.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, emphasized that the administration was prepared to take significant decisions against sabotage as it pursues the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking after the decoration ceremony of Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap as the 19th Substantive Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Tunji-Ojo underscored the government’s commitment to ongoing reforms across various departments and agencies for the nation’s growth and development.
The Minister specifically charged Mrs Nandap to discharge her duties effectively, highlighting that her performance would be a critical measure of her ability to protect the nation’s extensive borders.
Tunji-Ojo stated, “We will judge you on how well you protect our borders. In Nigeria’s security, the NIS has a significant role to play in the country’s security architecture.
“Please be creative. Be innovative. Bring your certificates and training to bear on your job.”
While urging officers and men of the service to cooperate with the new CG, he emphasized the importance of sustaining ongoing reforms within the service.
The Minister also cautioned that the administration would not hesitate to take stringent measures in cases where there is proven sabotage.
”The warning comes as part of the government’s commitment to maintaining discipline, accountability, and adherence to the principles of good governance in its various reform initiatives,” he stated.
