The coach of English Premier League (EPL) side Nottingham Forest, Nuno Espirito Santo, is banking on the return to full fitness of striker Taiwo Awoniyi as his team battles possible relegation to the Championship.
Despite making a recovery in January, Awoniyi has failed to reach full fitness, which has led to irregular appearances in recent times.
This season, he has experienced setbacks as a result of a groin operation intended to solve a recurring condition, which also ruled him out of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Awoniyi was supposed to miss a few weeks due to an injury sustained in the lead-up to the draw with Luton Town; but, last week, the striker had a scan, which Forest thought would provide further insight into when the player could return.
As Forest prepares for a crunch clash this weekend against Everton, Nuno remains optimistic his star striker will still have a part to play in the run-in as the club battles to beat the drop.
“He is starting his individual programme,” Nuno said last Thursday. “I don’t have an exact timeline for when he is going to return, but it is closer. Hopefully, he can still help us this season.”
