Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), which is based in Ile-Ife, Osun State, management has adjusted the tuition for the upcoming academic year in response to student requests.
Following conversations between university representatives and student representatives, this choice was made.
Abiodun Olanrewaju, the university’s public relations officer, said in a statement that the fee cut was reached after negotiations with the leaders of the Students Union, who had pushed for a 50% decrease.
Olanrewaju added that in order to secure the effective operation of the school, the university management had emphasized the necessity for appropriate fees.
He added that the revised fees were the absolute minimum needed for OAU to continue operating efficiently.
The following fee modifications were shown on the statement:
Humanities: Returning students are required to pay ₦76,000 instead of the previous ₦89,200 in fees. New Humanities students will now pay ₦13,000 instead of the previously anticipated ₦151,200.
Sciences and Technology: Previously needed to pay ₦101,200, returning students will now pay ₦86,000. The tuition for new students in these faculties will drop from ₦163,200 to ₦141,000.
Returning students at the College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy will now pay ₦109,000 instead of ₦128,200. The tuition for new students in these faculties will drop from ₦190,000 to ₦164,000.
The message also mentioned that the administration of the university had consented to let students pay their tuition in two equal payments.
