Abubakar Kabir Babawo, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has declared that any attempt to arrest Abubakar Malami, SAN, will backfire on the Bola Tinubu administration.
Babawo, the Director General of Atiku Support Organization, made the comment in reaction to reports that the Department of State Services has arrested Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Malami, from Kebbi state, is the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation and minister of justice.
He is also married to one of the daughters of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He is believed to have influenced the appointment of Bawa as the EFCC boss, who is also said to be his relative.
”If President Tinubu is thinking of arresting Malami, that will be the end of his fraudulent victory. He will expose their rigging plan from A-Z,” Babawo declared.
His comment, although not verified, indicates that the electoral victory by President Tinubu had the backing of the Buhari-led administration.
It is unclear how the PDP chieftain concluded, even when there were no indications the Tinubu-led administration would arrest Malami.
Babawo’s principal and PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is challenging the declaration of Tinubu as president.
Labour Party’s Peter Obi is also challenging the outcome of the election at the presidential election tribunal sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
