Hon Ayuba Nana, a key figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has raised an alarm over what he perceives as external influence driving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to target former Governor Yahaya Bello in a purported campaign of harassment.
Nana, an APC leader in Ankpa local government of Kogi state, alleged that unseen forces were compelling the EFCC to orchestrate a smear campaign against Bello.
He pointedly accused the commission of succumbing to external pressure, transforming what should be an impartial pursuit of justice into a politically motivated vendetta.
His words: “Ask yourself why the EFCC is in a hurry and why it is not obeying a court of law. It is simply because it was compelled by somebody only known to them to embarrass the former governor.
“The EFCC is playing to the gallery, and it must be told to stop because nobody is saying that Yahaya Adoza Bello is above the law and has been invited to answer any charges, but the method employed to achieve this is laden with suspicions.”
Expressing concern over the integrity of the EFCC’s actions, Nana emphasized the need for transparency and adherence to due process.
Newsng had earlier reported that another legal practitioner Daniel Bwala criticized the EFCC for the allegations against former governor Bello.
Bwala, a former media aide to Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, condemned the “trial by media” approach by the agency.
The lawyer who was reacting to the recent press briefing by the EFCC chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, accused the commission’s boss of conducting public discussions akin to a courtroom trial, where media outlets act as judge and jury.
