Former President Muhammadu Buhari has attributed the recent judgement by the Presidential Election Tribunal Court to the importance of democracy and the people.
The former president also expressed his satisfaction with the decision, encouraging the All Progressives Congress administration to cooperate to ensure that it fosters good governance.
He said this in a statement released by Garba Shehu, his former spokesperson, in response to the Presidential Election Tribunal court’s decision on Wednesday to proclaim Mr Tinubu the validly elected candidate in the February 2023 presidential elections.
A five-judge panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani decided that Mr Tinubu was legitimately elected President of Nigeria.
However, while announcing the victory of the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as his running mate, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Mr Buhari stated that the PEPC has “written history” by rejecting intimidation and all manner of prejudice in order to deliver justice according to law to a majority of citizens whose wish is that the choices they made be respected.
His words:
“If anybody has won today it is the democracy and the people,” adding “With the verdict of the Supreme Court, the election period is over and it is time to put the heat and dust behind us.
“From here, the new APC administration led by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should get the support of everyone in order to deliver the promises it made to the people.”
The former President also expressed his gratitude to all people for keeping the peace throughout this time and prayed for continuous advancement and development under the APC administration.
He extends his heartfelt congratulations to the President, the Vice President, and the All Progressives Congress on their win in court and wishes them the best of luck in realising the aspirations of the people.
