Comrade Abiyos Roni, a good governance advocate and activist, has advised Mohammed Badaru Abubakar to the opportunity given to him by President Bola Tinubu to right the wrongs of his past.
Abubakar, the immediate past governor of Jigawa state, was appointed as the minister of defence by President Tinubu.
Comrade Roni, in an open letter to the 60-year-old politician, urged him to take advantage of his new position to improve his ratings as a public servant.
He wrote:
”Sir, your new appointment as defence minister is a huge opportunity to right your past years’ mistakes as Jigawa state governor.
”From the time you took over as our governor, all human capital development sectors’ performances were downgraded and destroyed. Till today, no proper management of education, health, and the economy.
”Unemployment increased, and no jobs recruit for the youths despite the fact that most sectors lacked manpower.
”You did great in infrastructure projects like roads, hospitals and schools. But you only constructed the buildings, schools and hospitals managed by volunteers and casual workers.
”You left some secondary schools with 3-5 teachers to teach all the classes. Some primary schools in rural areas were managed by the headmaster only to teach all the classes.
”80% of Jigawas and Northerners weren’t happy with your appointment as minister for defence, considering the way you jeopardized Jigawa state in 8 years; you pocketed everything.”
He noted that this is the most difficult time for Nigeria, especially for the northern region, ”where we are dealing with insurgency for decades.”
He expressed optimism that the former governor would make the Jigawa people proud of his performance as minister.
