According to Premium Times, the United Kingdom government have refused to provide sufficient details about Peter Obi’s arrest at Heathrow Airport in London last week.
The Nigerian news media outlet were seeking to understand the circumstances surrounding the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate’s arrest and the UK government stated that they do not comment on individual’s cases, as conveyed by Chloe Newman, Senior Communications Officer – Newsdesk Communications Directorate.
Newman was quoted as saying: “We do not comment on individual cases.”
The spokesperson for Obi-Datti’s Media Diran Onifade claimed that the former Anambra state governor was detained in London by UK immigration officials over alleged impersonation.
However, the statement did not provide details about Obi’s arrest, subsequent release, or the offences committed by the impersonator which led to the LP’s flagbearer’s arrest.
Obi’s release and conditions considered before setting him free was not stated by the UK government and the Labour Party.
