Nigerian web host service provider, WhoGoHost, has rebranded as GO54 to expand market footprints in Africa.
CEO of GO54, Toluwani Adejuyigbe, disclosed the development in a statement seen by News.ng on Wednesday.
The press statement claims that the new name is derived from the “GO” in its previous name, Whogohost, which served as the impetus for businesses to go online.
The “54” in the name highlights the company’s short-term goals of expanding throughout Africa.
With more than 300,000 registered domains, GO54 (previously Whogohost), which was founded in 2005, has grown to become West Africa’s largest domain and hosting service.
With the relaunch, the business unveils a new line of products designed to support companies at every step of their development.
These consist of link-in-bio solutions, bulk SMS, email marketing services, an AI-powered website builder, and personalised payment links.
“The name signifies two key things; our evolution beyond domains and hosting. The new name also signifies ambition. We are not just a Nigerian business. We are now building for Africa,” Adejuyigbe said.
A startup that assists African businesses with online messaging, SendChamp was acquired by GO54 in 2023.
GO54 stated that it will use SendChamp’s products for marketing communications, one-time passwords (OTPs), and customer support services for its more than 130 users; however, the acquisition price was not disclosed.
However, there are obstacles to overcome when branching out across the continent, like low internet availability in some areas and competition from global behemoths.
However, GO54 said that its local strategy had given it a competitive strategy.
The business will serve local customers, accept payments in local currencies, and make investments in the development of tech talent.
“We are inspired by the opportunity to be driving market education and awareness of the benefits of digital adoption for individuals and their businesses,” Adejuyigbe said.
