Italian Serie A side AC Milan have appointed Paulo Fonseca as manager after botched talks with Spanish tactician Julen Lopetegui who has now signed for EPL side West Ham.
The 51-year-old Portuguese, who once managed French Ligue 1 club Lille from 2022-2024, now replaces Stefano Pioli, who left AC Milan by mutual consent.
Fonesca previously managed Italian club side Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk of Russia and Porto of Portugal has signed a three-year deal until 2027 with AC Milan.
“I am proud to take on the role of AC Milan manager and I will work to honour this club and its great history,” said Fonseca.

“Together, we will strive for excellence and to write a new chapter of successes that I hope can be celebrated by our extraordinary fans.” He added.
AC Milan were reportedly advancing in talks with Spanish manager Lopetegui coach as the new head coach of the team to replace under-fire Stefano Pioli who was later sacked.
However, the deal did not see the light of day as he opted to join West Ham to replace David Moyes whose contract with the London club expired at the end of the season.
