Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE are set to be commissioned on Monday, May 22, 2023.

The news has created massive buzz on social media as Nigerians look forward to the commencement of the facility.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to be in Lagos to commission the project.

News.ng lists seven facts about the new refinery.

1). The project is a 650,000 barrels per day integrated refining facility located at Lekki Free Zone, Lagos, Nigeria.

2). The facility, worth $ 19 billion, is the biggest single-train refinery globally and the single most significant business investment in Nigeria ever.

3). The refinery is connected by the largest sub-sea pipeline infrastructure in the world (1,100km long) to oil and gas blocks in the Niger Delta subregion for the supply of crude feedstock and gas to power the 435MW electricity generation facility.

4). Dangote Refinery will convert crude oil into eight refined products such as gasoline, kerosene/jet fuel, diesel, propane/Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Polypropylene, and other value-added fuels.

5). The facility is expected to meet 100% of the Nigerian requirements of all refined products as the 650,000 barrels of crude correspond to 50m litters of Euro-V Gasoline (PMS), 17m liters of Diesel (AGO) as well as kerosene/jet fuel and other petrochemicals.

6). The refinery will create about 150,000 direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians and create a market of $21 billion per annum for Nigerian crude.

7). Dangote Refinery will help Nigeria save annually $3.8 billion in imports and foreign exchange demand.
