X will no longer let users conceal their blue checks, regardless of whether they have a premium subscription.
The app started alerting users as seen by Newsng on Friday that “X Premium’s hide your checkmark feature is going away soon.”
After the blue checkmarks turned mostly into a premium service, Elon Musk’s social network X (previously known as Twitter) released a feature last year that allowed paid users to hide their checkmarks from other users.
The corporation is now doing another U-turn, alerting customers to the impending removal of the feature.
The modification was made soon after X announced putting blue checks on the profiles of “influential” users who pay for a premium subscription and have at least 2,500 followers.
Elon Musk claimed that the change was intended to be a benefit. Still, some of his detractors, including users who had previously been verified, weren’t happy with the blue badge showing up on their accounts because it raised suspicions that they were truly paying for a membership.
Before Elon, the ultimate Twitter humblebrag was a blue tick on your handle, bestowed by Twitter itself depending on the magnitude or influence of your profile on social media or the global community, to aid in differentiating between accounts that were real and those that were spoofs.
After Elon took over, everything changed since the checks were now a premium feature that could be purchased by anyone for a little charge, making the symbol accessible to everyone.
Put another way, it may even be embarrassing and useless as a status or verification mark.
We earlier reported that Users with more than 2,500 “verified subscriber followers” on Elon Musk’s app are given verified checkmarks and are eligible to receive free Premium memberships.
A decision that many users on X expressed concerns about finding themselves blue-checked once again. They never asked for it.
