Ahmad Fintiri, the Adamawa state governor has congratulated the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on his swearing-in as minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja.
Mr Wike was among the 45 ministers sworn in on Monday at the State House Conference Center, Abuja by President Bola Tinubu.
The selection of Mr Wike, a leader of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as a minister had been the subject of controversy, as many PDP members had demanded that the Rivers politician face disciplinary action.
Mr Wike was sworn in on Monday as the FCT’s new minister, making him only the second Southerner to hold the job since 1976.
He was said to have played a significant role in President Tinubu’s election after leading the G-5, a group of five disgruntled governors who afterwards attempted to work against their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the general elections of February 2023.
However, Mr Fintiri, a PDP party official and ally of Mr Atiku, has shocked many Nigerians, as he took to his X account formally known as Twitter to congratulate Mr Wike.
He said Mr Wike has demonstrated exemplary leadership traits by delivering service and good governance according to the people’s needs during his tenure as governor of Rivers State.
He further stated that he is confident that Mr Wike would perform in his capacity as FCT minister by improving growth and development.

“Congratulations on your Senate screening and appointment as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
“Your Excellency, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, you have set precedence and demonstrated exemplary leadership traits by delivering service and good governance according to the people’s needs during your tenure as Governor of Rivers State which I believe earned you this position.
“I trust that you will continue to work for improved growth and development of the FCT just like you did in Rivers State as Governor.
“I am confident that your influence will continue to encourage our proud tradition of hard work and dedication to the country as well as involvement in worthwhile political causes.
“My brother and friend once again congratulate you on your appointment. I know you have worked hard to reach this point, and I’m so happy that you have been recognized for your accomplishment with this new assignment. It is well-deserved.- AUF
