Akin Osuntokun, the Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council in the 2023 elections, has accused Nigerian politicians of using religious leaders to deceive citizens after committing crimes.
Osuntokun stated this in a social media post on Tuesday, August 22.
He said politicians and religious leaders are in the same bed, determined to make life worse for Nigerians.
The Ekiti-born politician described the situation as one that hinders Nigeria’s progress.
His words:
“Persistent barriers to Nigeria’s progress are deeply rooted, spanning institutions and involving both politicians and religious leaders.
“Politicians partake in corruption, electoral manipulation, and violence while enlisting religious leaders to retain control over the populace.”
Osuntokun’s comment comes on a day a respected Christian leader called for Nigerians to support the Bola Tinubu-led government.
It is unclear if the LP chieftain’s comments are in response to the statement made by the cleric.
William Kumuyi, the founder of the Deeper Life Bible Church, said:
“Let’s forget the past. This is a new day, and I believe; we all believe that we’re going to see new things for our country through our president and through the members of the cabinet. Good things will happen.
“If you look at the new ministers one by one, you’ll see the good things they’ve done either as state governors of the past or as former ministers, and I would say they have been carefully chosen.
“If we support and accept them and if we are not criticising their every step, we believe that God will walk through them and use them as instruments to build our nation.”
