Aisha Yesufu accuses FG of being the leading source of fake news in Nigeria

Renowned activist Aisha Yesufu has made a startling assertion, claiming that the Nigerian government holds the dubious distinction of being the foremost disseminator of fake news within the country.

Yesufu’s statement comes after a Nigerian government spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, claimed that authorities in the United Arab Emirates had lifted their visa ban on Nigerians.

Ngelale has since recanted, saying talks are ongoing after President Bola Tinubu visited the Arab country.

In her tweet, Yesufu accuses the Nigerian government of spreading false information.

Her words:

”The number one purveyor of fake news in Nigeria is the Nigerian government, and this illegitimate government is taking it to a whole new level.”

The term “fake news” refers to the deliberate dissemination of false or misleading information, often intending to manipulate public perception or advance particular agendas.

The proliferation of fake news has become a global concern in recent years, with governments and organisations worldwide working to combat this phenomenon.
