PDP chieftain warns of severe consequences if Peter Obi self-declares as president of Nigeria

Arc Uche Rochas, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has issued a cautionary statement regarding the use of the title “President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” by Peter Obi’s supporters.

According to him, while Obi’s supporters, known as ‘Obidients’, may call the Labour Party presidential candidate their president informally, declaring oneself as such could result in severe consequences.

You can call Peter Obi your president, and nothing will happen, but if Peter Obi addresses himself as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, there will be very severe consequences.

Rochas, however, dismissed the calls by some All Progressives Congress (APC) members for Obi to be arrested.

Lauretta Onochie, a stalwart of the APC and former board chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission, had led the ruling party members in calling for Obi’s arrest, adding that heaven won’t fall if the LP candidate is detained by security agencies.

Rochas, however, stated that such action by the authorities would trigger unrest in the country, worse than that of Pakistan.

He said:

”Calling for the arrest of Peter Obi is out of it. All you can do is bring the dividend of democracy to the people and put a check on the fake news merchants. If you arrest Peter, what happened in Pakistan will look like a joke.”

Peter Obi, a prominent political figure in Nigeria, has been the subject of public discourse and speculation after losing at the presidential election petitions tribunal.

However, the former governor of Anambra state has stated that he is heading to the Supreme Court.
