Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed his condolences to President Vladimir Putin of Russia in the wake of the recent terrorist attack at a music hall in Moscow.
In a letter dated Monday, March 25, 2024, Olawepo-Hashim conveyed his sympathies through the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Abuja.
In his letter, Olawepo-Hashim described the attack as a “fiendish assault on live culture and civilization,” emphasizing the need for global condemnation of such horrific acts.
He lamented the loss of lives, with reports indicating that the attack claimed 137 lives and left many others injured.
Highlighting the universal threat of terrorism, Olawepo-Hashim referenced past incidents, such as the 9/11 attacks in the United States and the London Tube bombing, emphasizing the imperative of international cooperation and solidarity in combating terrorism.
While acknowledging Nigeria’s struggles with terrorism, Olawepo-Hashim emphasized the importance of standing in solidarity with Russia, a nation that has historically supported Nigeria during times of war and peace.
He recounted Russia’s assistance during Nigeria’s Civil War and its contributions to economic development and education in Nigeria.
Olawepo-Hashim underscored the reciprocal friendship between Nigeria and Russia, citing Nigeria’s financial donation to support Russia during the Chornobyl nuclear tragedy as an example of solidarity between the two nations.
He also extended his support to the victims of the Moscow attack and reaffirmed his solidarity with Russia during this challenging time.
