Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has called upon President Bola Tinubu to exercise rigorous oversight in the allocation and distribution of funds earmarked for poverty alleviation programs.
The plea comes in the aftermath of allegations involving Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, regarding the misappropriation of significant funds.
Edu faces accusations of unlawfully diverting N585.189 million initially intended for the vulnerable populations in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states, channelling the funds into a private account.
In response to Edu’s assertion that due process was followed in these transactions, Oyintiloye emphasized the crucial need for President Tinubu’s direct involvement in monitoring the utilization of the funds.
He underscored Tinubu’s steadfast commitment to eradicating poverty among the masses and cautioned against any hindrances posed by individuals with vested interests.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State, the APC stalwart stressed the urgency of stringent measures to ensure the success and effective execution of diverse intervention programs initiated by the President.
“We have a president known for scrutinizing every facet of his government’s activities, earning our absolute trust.
“We must unite and empower the president to vigilantly oversee these intervention programs, preventing any possibility of diversion,” he said.
Highlighting the funds’ intended purpose in alleviating poverty among the masses, Oyintiloye advocated for meticulous strategies to guarantee that the allocated resources authentically benefit the less privileged Nigerians.
He emphasized the necessity of ensuring tangible improvements in the lives of these citizens through the effective utilization of these funds.
