The First Lady of Bauchi, Dr. Hajiya Bala Abdullahi Mohammed, has reaffirmed her commitment to making life easier and more meaningful for people with disabilities in Bauchi.
News.ng sourced that the First Lady’s project, the Alhumdabah Foundation, is partnering with the USFPA to provide skills acquisition training to many disabled persons.
The annual event was organised by United Nations Organization to assist the First Lady’s Foundation, in respect of the 2023 IDP Day. Dr. Bala Abdullahi expressed her appreciation to the United Nations for acknowledging the special day for people with disabilities.
She also stressed that disabled persons should be allowed to participate in crucial aspects of life. In a statement she called on government participation to create a world that empowers people with disabilities,
“Empowering the disabled by employment will go a long way in assisting them regardless of where they are coming from, each of them has potential to use their talents.
UNFPA said that the gesture, which was a joint effort between the two organisations, was to empower the beneficiaries to become financially independent and employers of labour.
All of the beneficiaries were women and listed some of their skills, such as making soap, baking, and frying bean cakes, and were awarded startup funds to begin their trade.
The UNFPA also expressed its commitment to human rights and the social inclusion of disabled persons, which mainly includes women and youth.
She also said that the organization’s goal is to increase access to reproductive health services, information, and education for those in need.
The group called for the protection of human rights for disabled persons and also appreciated their partnership with the First Lady in aiding disabled persons.
