Incumbent Bayelsa state Governor Douye Diri became the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate after emerging winner in the primarie in the state.
Governor Diri will be seeking a second term in office against other parties come November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa.

Diri did not have anybody contesting against him as he was the sole aspirant for the primary and polled a total number of 305 yes votes from the delegates.
Governor of Osun State Senator Ademola Adeleke who was the chairman of the Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Election Primary Committee urged the people of the state to support Diri on November 11, for the gubernatorial race.
