The Department of State Services (DSS) on Thursday evening detained Obi Nduka Elunor, a chief from Asaba, for alleged land extortion and unlawful possession of weapons in Asaba.
The operation in Obi’s palace at Anwai lasted for hours when the operatives discovered firearms and other incriminating items.
Newsng gathered that DSS agents also arrested about seven of Elunor’s associates, while Others managed to escape and fled into the nearby forest when they raided the Obi’s palace.
A source stated that a petition was written against Obi by some members of his community over “land grabbing” in Ugwu-Nwosu land, near Asaba, which led to his arrest.
“The DSS invited Obi Elunor to their office. As Obi went to the DSS office, operatives of the DSS numbering over 20, invaded the Obi’s palace”.
“AK-47 rifles and other things were recovered from the place, some of his men were arrested while others escaped”.
On Friday, another source said the DSS officials claimed that the matter was still under investigation.
After confirming the incident, a senior DSS official said Elunor might be released on bail or the case handed over to the police for further investigation.
