Abdurrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC], has been released after five months of detention.
News.ng gathered that the former Chairman was released on Wednesday evening. It is recalled that Mr Bawa was arrested on June 14th, 2023, shortly after President Tinubu suspended him from office over allegations of abuse of office.
Since then, the police have not formally filed any charges against him, nor have they indicated the specific offence for which he was arrested.
On October 12th, Mr Tinubu appointed a new EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olokoyede, whose appointment was confirmed by the Senate on October 18th, 2023.
