Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, has weighed in on the recent heavy fine on computer giant, Apple, for engaging in anti-competitive behaviour.
Sweeney, who is a well-known critic of Apple, made his comment on his official X handle, seen by News.ng on Tuesday.
Recall that a record €1.84 billion fine levied by the European Commission against the maker of the iPhone favours Spotify as it concerns Apple’s handling of its anti-steering terms, which forbade Spotify and other music streaming services from sending customers to their websites.
“Denial is a river that flows through Cupertino!,” said the CEO.
For quite some time, Epic Games has been seeking a method to provide its well-known game, Fortnite, to iOS gamers without requiring them to use the App Store or pay Apple a commission for any in-app purchases.
The game developer filed antitrust lawsuits against Apple and Google over the management of their respective app marketplaces.
In reference to Apple’s statement that it would appeal the EC fine, Sweeney stated that “bitter griping simply describes their historic, pre-monopoly relationship with app makers: the device provides great APIs, and apps provide great features to attract users. Everyone profits together.”
He also suggested that the EC’s decision has relevance to his case in the U.S., as it describes “lawbreaking by Apple.
