The Falconets of Nigeria have reached the finals of the 2023 All Africa Games women’s football event after defeating the Uganda Queen Cranes in the semi-finals.
The Nigerian female U-20 team dislodged their opponents 2-0 on Monday after scoring second-half goals from Akah Adaobi (74th minute) and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu (89th minute).
Uganda’s loss to the Falconets comes after the team’s coach, Sheryl Botes, stated in her pregame remarks that her team is full of confidence and that there is a belief in the camp that they can create history by defeating Nigeria.
Botes said that she is confident that Uganda will pose a great challenge to Nigeria and advance to the final.
“Nigeria is a possession-based team; they are not as direct as Ghana. Therefore, we have drafted a strategy on how to approach this game, and I have trust in my players to execute it to perfection.” She said.
Led by Christopher Danjumah, the Falconets who are the defending champions of the All African Games women’s football event and are poised for another final match have now secured three wins in three games in the female soccer event at the ongoing All Africa Games.
