The federal government, through the minister of sports, Senator John Owan Enoh, expressed its heartfelt congratulations to Team Nigeria athletes for their outstanding performance and achievements at the 2023 Africa Senior Table Tennis Championships.
The championships occurred in Tunis, Tunisia, from September 11th to September 17th, 2023.
The minister said the congratulatory message reflects the pride and appreciation for the dedicated and skilled athletes who represented Nigeria on the international stage.
According to him, their accomplishments serve as a source of inspiration and a testament to their hard work and commitment to excellence in table tennis.
He also acknowledged the importance of recognizing and celebrating the success of Nigerian athletes, fostering a sense of national pride and unity, and encouraging continued support for sports development in the country.
Nigerian table tennis player Quadri Aruna was the biggest winner at the 2023 ITTF Africa Senior Championships, winning the men’s singles.
Quadri Aruna beat Egyptian table tennis player Ahmed Saleh 4-0 (11-2, 12-10, 11-6, 11-6) in the final of the 2023 ITTF Africa Senior Championships.
On the other hand, Nigeria’s Fatimo Bello and Funke Oshonaike upset Egypt’s Sarah Hanffou and Marwa Alhodaby in the women’s doubles final, winning the match 3-2 (11-8, 8-11, 11-4, 7-11, 12-10).
As for the women’s singles, Hana Goda defeated fellow Egyptian table tennis star Dina Meshref 4-1 to win the women’s singles as both Egypt and Nigeria continue to dominate the game of tennis in Africa.
