Okey Ahaiwe has finally emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia state.
The former chief of staff of current Governor Okezie Ikpeazu beat his closest rivals Deputy Governor Ude Oko-chukwu and Lucky Igbokwe.
The election which was held at the state capital Umuahia was monitored by a team from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headed by Festus Okoye.

Ahaiwe polled a total number of 469 votes with a landslide win over Oko-chukwu and Igbokwe who both had 12 votes each while a former House of Assembly member, Sampson Orji, claimed only 11 votes, The Punch.
Senator Emma Nwaka had zero votes in the 516 votes cast and 12 out of the sum total were declared invalid.
Governor of Edo state Godwin Obaseki who declared Ahaiwe the winner of the Abia PDP primary, assured him that the party will support him to win the governorship election in the state.
Ahaiwe thanked the party delegates for electing him to fly the PDP’s flag in the forthcoming election which is around the corner.
He added that he would bring his experience from the private and government sectors to move the state forward.
