President Bola Tinubu recently met with Nigerian governors and charged them with the need to work for the people of Nigeria. The president stated this in his consultations with the Nigeria Governors Forum on the recent fuel subsidy removal.
The governors praised Tinubu for addressing the fuel subsidy scandal and pledged to cooperate with him to mitigate the decision’s immediate impact on Nigerians.
Tinubu urged the governors to work with the federal government to combat the country’s poverty crisis, saying the degree of poverty is intolerable.
He also advised them to downplay their differences and jointly focus on alleviating the sufferings and pains of the people.
The president made eight critical comments while interacting with the state chief executives.
They include:
1) This is about the Nigeria project, not about Bola Tinubu.
2) I don’t have a dealership in Petroleum products. I don’t intend to have one.
3) If we think together and work together, the Nigeria of our dream is not far away.
4) Be sure we are not going to have the multiple exchange rate anymore.
- We must do some arithmetic and soul-searching on the minimum wage. We will have to look at that.
6) We have inherited our predecessors’ assets and liabilities and campaigned for the job; we can’t complain. We got it.
7) Let’s constantly deliberate, think together, and maintain an open-door policy.
8) I’m ready to work, consult, and listen.
