Gombe has received the distinguished ‘most digitally compliant state’ award from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), marking a significant recognition for its strides in digitalization.
The presentation took place during the culminating ceremony of the Digital Nigeria Conference 2023, hosted by NITDA at the International Conference Center in Abuja.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya received the prestigious award from the minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy, Dr. Dosun Tijjani.
Though represented by retired federal permanent secretary and member of Gombe state special advisory council, Dr Ibrahim Jalo Daudu, and commissioner for science, technology, and innovation, Dr Abdullahi Bappa Garkuwa, Governor Inuwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to digitizing all government operations.
Acknowledging the honour, Governor Inuwa emphasized Gombe state’s ambition to become a hub of information technology and innovation within Nigeria.
He said the state aims to foster an enabling environment for business growth further, revamp internal revenue generation and position Gombe as the country’s Silicon Valley.
He also revealed plans for a comprehensive automation of all governmental functions within the next four years, citing the successful implementation of a biometric personnel management system in the state’s civil service as a stepping stone toward achieving this goal.
The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, highlighted the state’s exemplary initiatives and Governor Inuwa’s contributions to information technology, stating that the award resulted from Gombe’s outstanding strides in the field.
